There is a penguin event in Japan this May that is worth putting on your radar.
Penguin Bazaar Shinjuku 2026 will take place at the 7F Event Space of Odakyu Department Store Shinjuku from May 6 (Wed, a Japanese public holiday) to May 11 (Mon), 2026. Admission is free. The organizer describes it as one of Japan’s largest penguin-themed goods markets, with more than 60 Japanese creators gathering in one place for six days.
The goods range from ceramics and paper items to fabric goods, plush toys, jewelry, and accessories. Each creator reads “penguin” a little differently: some pieces lean toward natural watercolor detail, while others turn penguins into small graphic characters. Seeing them side by side makes the theme feel much wider than it sounds at first.
The event is split into an early period and a late period, and the booths are completely different.
The early period runs May 6 to May 8, and the late period runs May 9 to May 11. The venue closes at 18:00 on May 8 and at 17:00 on May 11. If you like seeing the whole lineup, it makes sense to visit once in each period. If you can only choose one, check the exhibitor list on the official site first.
There will also be full-run booths, face-to-face sales booths, live demonstration sales, and an event-only postcard for the first 4,000 visitors.
